The Kingston Yellow Jackets played a pair of gamers earlier this week against the Sweetwater Wilcats.
The games were played Monday at Fort Southwest Point in Kingston and Tuesday in Sweetwater. Surprisingly, home field didn’t come into play as the Jackets lost Monday, 4-3, but won Tuesday with the same score, 4-3.
Kingston couldn’t keep pace with Sweetwater Monday and it proved to be costly.
A two-run single from the Wildcats’ Cade Houser along with a Kingston error led to Sweetwater taking a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
The bottom of the frame saw the Jackets attempt to get some of it back with Tyson McAmis scoring on an error at third base to put the score at 3-1.
An error in the third put the final run on for the Wildcats.
Kingston attempted a rally, scoring two runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Blake Hester drove home James Lane and Zack Peterson on a single, but the rally fell short.
Blake Herrell was hit with the loss. He pitched six innings, allowed four runs on five hits.
Hester went one-for-three at the plate and drove in two runs.
Peterson finished with two hits.
Tied at three, the game took extra innings but in the end, Herrell proved to be the hero Kingston needed when he singled home the game-winning run in the 10th inning.
The contest was scoreless until the fourth with Hester walked, scoring a run.
Sweetwater jumped out in front in the sixth frame following a hit batter and a single.
McAmis hit a single in the sixth inning, helping the Jackets to tie the game in the top of the seventh, eventually forcing extra time.
Carson Ladd was the winning pitcher. In four innings on the mound, he didn’t allow a run or hit.
