It took two overtimes, but the Kingston Yellow Jackets soccer team was able to emerge victorious with a 3-2 road victory Friday night against the Oneida Indians.
The game was a scoreless, defensive battle for much of the first half.
Edvin Olivares finally broke deadlock with a nice header into the goal late in the half.
Olivares’ goal also had the distinction of being the start of a two-assist performance from Noah Kirkendall.
The Jackets held onto the lead for much of the game, until late in the second half.
Kingston’s defense cracked a bit and give up the lead for the first time since its season opener at Heritage.
In that game, the Jackets wouldn’t be denied the victory and they were determined not to be denied against the Indians.
A corner kick from Kirkendall found a ready and alert Noah Johnson with a scoring header of his own to force overtime.
The overtime period wouldn’t be enough to decide things, requiring another one to be playe.
With four minutes left in the second overtime, Kingston’s Matt Reeder and Carson Ross teamed up to score the game winner and send the Jackets back down the mountain victorious.
