For the annual “Battle of the Bridge” softball meeting of the Kingston Lady Jackets and Midway Lady Waves, the rivalry is always a friendly one, but one each team wants to win.
For the 2024 iteration of the contest, Kingston was victorious, winning in seven innings, 6-0, Friday night.
The Lady Jackets’ Sailor Presley got the start in the pitching circle and as the score and her performance in the game would attest, was likely a contributor to the win.
Presley pitched a complete game, struck out 20 of the Midway batters and only allowed two hits.
Providing the needed run support was Maris Neal.
Neal singled in the first inning and brought home two runs.
After a scoreless second, things resumed in the third frame.
Reese Newman hit a two-run double followed by Irelyn Beaumia singling home another score to make it 5-0.
Just for good measure, Beaumia scored in the fifth inning when Madison Weaver hit a ground ball and reached on an error.
Lorelai Langley was the starting pitcher for Midway. She pitched three innings, struck out three and walked three.
Maris Neal and Newman each drove in two runs for the Lady Jackets.
Beaumia and Macey Neal led the way with two hits apiece.
Langley and Kali Kile each finished with a hit for the Lady Waves.
